2018 MERCEDES-AMG GT R
In a direct revolt against humility, Mercedes-AMG just released images of their 2018 AMG GT R, outfitted in a color called Green Hell Magno. It’s expected to show up in the U.S. market one year after a base model of the GT is introduced. The public debut was last weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England.
Aside from the unmistakable color, the R uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged 8-cylinder engine as the other GTs. However, thanks to a combination of new turbos, exhaust ports, a different compression ratio and modified software, the R hosts 577 horsepower and 443-lb-ft of torque.
There’s also a new fully reworked suspension including a rear-steering system in which the rear toe angle is adjustable by up to 1.5 degrees to steer with or opposite the direction of the fronts. This feature works at speeds below 62 mph. Additional characteristics include special lightweight Michelin wheels and a new feature called AMG Traction Control. Prices have yet to be released.
